You Could Be Wealthy Already

WealthWhat is wealth? Is it great big piles of cash in small easy to carry bags?
Or is it having property portfolios and vast sums of stocks and futures?
Perhaps it is having all or none of those, but having independent financial security. Or perhaps not.

“Wealth is simply the ability to do what you want, when you want and with who you want,” says Shannon Lavenia of Polaris Media Group

I love this definition of wealth. It really sums it up.

I remember a story about a business guy who meets a fisherman on a beach. The fisherman stands there every day and catches fish to feed his family and trades the extra few he gets. The businessman asks him why he doesn’t buy a boat and nets and grow his business. Then he could hire other people to fish for him and eventually have a fleet of boats. The fisherman looks at him and says “…and then what would I do?” The businessman says, “Well, you could do whatever you want.”
He thinks about it for a bit and the fisherman goes, “Can I stand on the beach every day and fish?”

He was wealthy already. He had achieved his success.  He was enough of an entrepreneur to be his own boss and he answered to no one except the ocean.

So perhaps you are wealthy already? When you are happy, you are happy. And if you aren’t, you only have yourself to blame.

Change your reality to suit you. It’s your life.

Be wealthy my friends.

Find Your Strength

Personal freedomEvery person has their own brand of talent. You’re great at something; you just may not have found it yet. To attain personal freedom you have to have the courage to dare to achieve your dreams. Most of us put our own obstacles in the way, either consciously or subconsciously. We say to ourselves “it can’t be” or “I could never do that” or even “if I try that, I will fail”.

It’s really a mental game. Can you stay positive through adversity?

That’s the trick. In the military, the key to survival is keeping morale up. According to survival expert, Bear Grylls, it’s one of the biggest contributing factors to getting through a potentially life threatening situation. Whether that means you make the journey fun or huddle by a cheery fire is up to you.

Hopefully it’s both. But the point is that high spirits and staying positive in ANY situation is the key to surviving.

For some reason the world we live in is geared so that when your spirits fail you, you fail.

So the answer is…never give up.

Persevere, no matter what the odds stacked against you are and you will achieve success.  Just thinking about this brings to mind an old cartoon I saw – there was a picture of a stork with a frog in its mouth. The frog had its little front arms locked around the birds’ throat, reaching from out of the bird’s mouth and the caption read, “Never give up.”

You can do anything you choose. So choose to be successful, happy and healthy. It really is that simple.

The Game

Self RelianceThe old adage that life is a game may be a cliché, but it is true. What makes a person a success? Why do certain people pull ahead of the pack? What is it that sets them apart from “the herd”?

I see the correlation between sports and business, but I don’t believe that the world works like a professional sport. It’s closer to playing on the playground with a bunch of kids you know – and maybe some you don’t.

When you’re in a rigid environment like a big corporation, there’s no room for real individuality. It’s like being shoved into a uniform and told to “get the ball no matter what.” On the playground life’s forces come into play. People can try and cheat, the rules are sometimes made up on the spot and people pick whomever they like.

Now that is closer to real life.

In this environment it is the fun of the game and the adventure of the constantly changing imaginations of all involved that make it so special.

Whatever you create in your mind as a kid is absolutely real. Beyond a shadow of a doubt. There are light sabers and aliens in the backyard and a whole army in the field at the bottom of the street. The collective imagination and overall lightness of the effort used in creating these realities is the key to self reliance and the entrepreneurial spirit.

So go out there and have a blast! Anything you can imagine is real.

Due Diligence is Vital to Success

Self RelianceWhen you are embarking on your new adventure of sailing off into the relatively uncharted territory of the independent business world a lot of people are going to give you advice. Some of it will be good and some of it will be not so good. Some of it will be downright appalling. Always keep in mind that you are the entrepreneur.

Remember what Polonius said in Hamlet? “Keep thy own counsel. And this above all else…to thine own self be true.”

This is timeless advice.  It doesn’t only apply to people going off to University, but generally in life and most especially in business.

Listen to all you hear and then make up your own mind, which to heed and which to turf out like yesterday’s dishwater.

Learn as much as you can and then when the time is right …execute your plans.

Simple? Actually it is.

All you have to do is always be true to yourself, your ideals and principles. It is actually far easier than the not-so-straight way of doing business. While the old adage honesty is the best policy applies, it’s a lot harder to put into practice in the real world. People’s opinions can get in our heads and twist us around so we are actually going backwards.

So the best advice is:  always examine your principles and your gut-feel on something.

We all know what is right and fair inherently, and if you always strive to give your client base a huge abundance in exchange for their hard earned cash, you will be set. And don’t believe people who say it can’t be done. Because it can. Self reliance is a heartbeat away.

“Before taking anyone’s advice, do your due diligence, educate yourself and then do what feels right to you.”

Get Out There and Talk to People

Polaris AU- Blog #14Always, always, always communicate. It’s the secret to success.

There is never going to be a time when you shouldn’t talk a problem through. The only way to achieve a resolution is to look at it from every angle. By utilising the people around you and their problem solving capabilities, you can achieve anything.

They say we learn mostly through trial and error. Yet if you have talented and aware teammates you may not have to learn by trial and error.  They may have already learned valuable life lessons, which you can slot into your progress.

Try and surround yourself with capable individuals who do not need your constant supervision. If they can solve problems on their own they are a valuable addition to your team. Being able to rely on someone in a pressure situation is vital and when you put that into practice and are brainstorming on solutions you will see how much your life can change.

The art of communication for the entrepreneur these days is enhanced by social media and technology. Now you can be in touch with your team no matter where you are and no matter what time zone you are in. Video conferencing with Skype means it is now not only affordable – it’s free!

So what are you waiting for? Get out there and talk to people.

The key to success is self reliance

Long term financial sucessWhen you don’t have to rely on someone else, you are the master of your own destiny.

That’s really the secret to everything in life. If you’re OK with yourself and you don’t need others approval for your happiness… then you are happy.

If you are financially self reliant then no one else can let you down. But at the same time it means you will be happy because it’s your achievement and your business and your idea that has grown to fruition.

Small startups generally succeed because they have kept control over everything.  It’s all in-house.
They know every part of the biz because it’s their life. The have complete control because they are so self reliant.  Self reliance breeds competence too, because if you have no one else to blame you better do the job right. It’s your livelihood on the line.

The more competent you are the more your business will grow and the more financially independent you will become.

Your gold mine may be right under your nose

achieve sucessAfter a tragedy in which a friends’ pet died, due to food contamination from imported Chinese dog food, a smart businesswoman realized that there was a gap in the market for a dog friendly restaurant/deli.
After developing all the food from scratch, using organic pulses and grains mixed with only free range chicken and natural ingredients, she began to market it. A year later she employs ten people and enjoys a booming business, while making sure all her beloved furry friends are healthy and their tails are wagging.

Another woman who had been in the fashion industry was “stuck at home being a housewife” and after her second child decided to turn her experience and design ideas to a new product line. Now her kids-wear range is stocked in a major chain of stores.

Per ardua ad astra. Through difficulty to the stars! They are strong independent modern women and they are finding their rightful place in the world.  They took what they knew and made their life into their business and were able to achieve success. Genius.

To Achieve Success Reach Out to Everyone You Can

Achieve sucessIn years gone by it was far easier to get a job. If you’re just entering the marketplace fresh out of school it may seem more than daunting, but you have your youth and vigor on your side. Your self confidence will dictate your success or failure. But what do you do if you are older and have been laid off?

Well, the way to achieve success is actually the same. According to Tony Beshara, the number-one placement and recruitment specialist in the U.S. , you have to make changing your circumstances a job in itself.  That’s great advice, no matter what country you live in.  You could live in Timbuktu and it still rings true.

But, I say start your own business and create your own wealth. Sitting around waiting to be hired is not an option. Times are harder than they were, but that just means we have to step up and make our own future.

Nobody ever got anything done sitting around waiting for others to come to them. It’s a big world out there. Get out into it and carve a place for yourself. There’s always room for one more. That’s the beauty of our modern world. If you succeed it benefits everyone. Start your own business. And then call everyone you know.

That’s right. Everyone. If you are out of work and need to get money in, then it’s time to start the shot gun approach. Besides, your winning attitude and undaunted spirit won’t keep you down for long.

A very successful entrepreneur in the luxury remodeling construction business is currently enjoying a boom time, even in a recession, because his business is supported because his product is so good and he gets the job done on time and on budget. He started his business a few years ago with $500, now he employs over 50 people.
Learn from your mistakes, be prepared, be ready for anything and most of all keep the fun alive. Don’t take it too seriously or you are dead in the water.

Reach out.  You can achieve success.

Are You An Entrepreneur?

Polaris AU- Blog #8If you can answer yes to this question…..you are.

Are you driven to succeed?

To be a successful entrepreneur the main ingredient necessary in one’s personality is:  You are prepared to overcome obstacles that would likely discourage or stop others.
It’s closely related to the fight or flight response. An entrepreneur has a do-or-die attitude. They will succeed through adversity and usually not only get themselves through tough periods, but others as well.

It takes a particular type of mind that reacts to stimuli in a certain way.
Entrepreneur education can teach a lot of skills to those who are not born with it, but the lucky few who have it in them naturally, will succeed no matter what the economy does and no matter what they choose to do.
A belief in self and ability, and an attitude that states flatly that they will conquer any and all obstacles put in their way, is the point where most entrepreneurs stand apart.

When a true entrepreneur is faced with a problem they react by thinking of any possible way to fix the situation.  All aspects of it are viewed, while others may fixate on the “what ifs?” and worry.

As the song goes “don’t worry … be happy.”   And a true entrepreneur knows just how to do that.  He’ll handle any situation and walk off into the sunset, whistling.

When You Do What You Love, Success Comes Naturally

Polaris AU- Blog #6People often ask, “What is the secret to success?”

If you love what you do you will never work a day in your life. An old mentor told me that once, when I was quite young, and at the time it sounded impossible. It didn’t seem feasible that you could actually survive like that.

Men worked. That was just the way it was.

And if you don’t think it’s possible either, I have two words for you: Tony Hawk.

Tony Hawk is a skateboarder.  He is also the co-founder of a multi-million dollar skateboarding empire.

He followed his passion, but he also worked extremely hard – going on the road, doing contests from the time he was a teenager and founding his own business soon after.  And he started the business when the sport was experiencing a slump in popularity!

Through unbelievable hardship and adversity he built a core brand that has exploded into arguably the hottest series of video games in the world, accompanied by his merchandising and clothing as well as ….well… anything skateboarding really.

He lives his business. He breathes it and sweats it. It is his life, so he never really works.

He laces up his skate shoes and drops into a custom made state-of-the-art half pipe and tests out his product. His co-workers are on their feet cheering as he lands a near impossible trick.

Just another day at the office.
